Shiba is an Australian and British trained Plastic Surgeon. She obtained her medical degree and a BSc with honours at the University of Leeds. It was her elective placement as a medical student in plastic surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne that laid the foundations for her relocation to Australia. Shiba undertook a higher research degree focusing on the tissue engineering of fat at the O’Brien Institute in Melbourne. She completed her advanced Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training in New South Wales and Victoria. Shiba then undertook further fellowship training in breast reconstruction at the world renowned Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead in the UK. She also undertook numerous observorships in aesthetic breast and body surgery in the UK, Europe and Australia.
Shiba has presented internationally in the field of breast reconstruction and has ongoing clinical research interests with a particular focus on patient reported outcome measures and enhanced recovery after surgery in breast reconstruction. She is also a clinical supervisor and believes passionately in the mentoring of junior surgeons within the public health system.
Shiba holds Consultant public hospital appointments at Monash Health and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and is able to facilitate multi-disciplinary reviews for both breast and skin cancer patients through these centres. Her private practice is based in rooms located in the Hawthorn, Caulfield and CBD.
