Mr Ramez Bassari FRACS

Mr. Ramez Bassari is a General Surgeon, with interests in Bariatric (weight loss) and Upper Gastrointestinal surgery.  He is also GESA-accredited to perform gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Mr. Bassari completed his medical degree in 2004 at the University of Auckland. This was followed by specialist surgical training (FRACS) which he completed in 2012. He pursued further training in the fields of Bariatric/Metabolic and Upper Gastrointestinal surgery for the next 4 years.  This included 2 years through the competitive ANZGOSA training scheme.

Dr Melissa Beitner MBBS(Hons), BMedSc(Hons), GDipSurgAnat, MS, MD, DABOM, FASMBS, FRACS

Dr. Beitner is a General Surgeon with an interest in Bariatrics and minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery. Dr. Beitner provides quality, comprehensive and compassionate care to patients for the surgical management of obesity, hiatus hernia, reflux, gallbladder disease and other general surgical conditions.

Bariatrics offers treatment for those who are overweight. This may include a programme of diet and nutrition, exercise, behaviour modification, lifestyle changes and appropriate medications. Bariatric surgery (obesity surgery or weight loss surgery) includes a variety of procedures performed on people who are obese (severely overweight).

Professor Wendy Brown MBBS(hons) PhD FRACS FACS

Professor Wendy Brown was the first woman to be appointed Chair of the Monash University Department of Surgery in 2015. She is also the Director of the Centre for Obesity Research and Education (CORE) and Clinical Lead for the National Bariatric Surgery Registry and the Victorian Upper GI Cancer Registry.

Mr Paul Burton MBBS (Hons), FRACS, PhD

Paul is an Upper GI surgeon who has an interest in surgery of the stomach and esophagus, laparoscopic surgery, and weight loss surgery. Paul was trained in Melbourne and subsequently Cambridge, United Kingdom. In addition to his surgical training, Paul has completed a Ph.D. relating to upper GI surgical interventions. This research has led to major changes in the understanding of various Upper GI surgical operations, incorporated the development of several new diagnostic tests, and has resulted in improved patient education. He received doctoral thesis excellence awards from Monash University for this work.

Dr Joseph Kong MBChB, FRACS, MS (Hons), PhD

Dr Joseph Cherng Huei Kong is General Surgeon with an interest in all colorectal conditions including haemorrhoid, perianal disease (fissure, fistula and abscess), pilonidal sinus, inflammatory bowel disease, rectal prolapse, colorectal cancer (primary and recurrent), small bowel cancer, appendiceal cancer and peritoneal cancers. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2006 from University of Auckland and completed his surgical training at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. He became a Fellow of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2015.

Mr Charles Leinkram MBBS FRACS

Mr Charles Leinkram is a General surgeon who has an interest in hernia repair and abdominoplasty (tummy-tuck). In 2002, Charles joined the Melbourne Hernia Clinic, Australia’s first hernia clinic which has now treated over 20,000 patients. Today, he is the principal surgeon at the clinic, performing around 400 hernia operations each year.

Mr Damien Loh FRACS, MBBS

Mr. Damien Loh is an Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon, specializing in surgery for disorders of the stomach and oesophagus and an interest in weight loss surgery. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Melbourne and gained his Fellowship in General Surgery in 2012. He subsequently undertook a further three years of training in Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric (weight loss) Surgery at various specialist centers around Australia. He currently works as an Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at The Alfred and a General Surgeon at The Northern Hospita

Mr Andrew Packiyanathan MBBS FRACS

Mr. Andrew Packiyanathan is a general and upper gastrointestinal surgeon with an interest in bariatric (weight loss) surgery.  He also has an interest in upper GI endoscopy and has experience in therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

Mr Stewart Skinner MBBS

Mr Stewart Skinner's main area of interest is gastrointestinal surgery.  He undertook postgraduate training in colorectal surgery at The Royal London and St Marks Hospitals in London between 1995-1997.  Mr Skinner has been a member of the Centre for Bariatric Surgery since 1998 and has been performing the Lap-Band procedure since that time.  He is also an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Monash University Department of Surgery at Alfred Hospital.

Mr Ray Yong MBBS FRACS

Mr. Ray Yong is a General Surgeon with an interest in Breast, Thyroid and Parathyroid.  He aims to see all new patients within days of a referral and all new consultations are not hurried and are at least 20 minutes in length.
